This series features the organic shapes made by embedding stones, rocks and gravel in paint and acrylic media.  Removing these stones leaves behind an evocative pattern of marks and outlines. Where the medium used is thickest a mold of the stone is clearly visible and slightly raised from the surface.  I've named the series Runes to acknowledge the role of stones and rocks in the creation of each painting.  I also find word's many meanings intriguing: an inscription of magical significance, a divine symbol, a stone used in meditation and prognostication, a mystery. Inherently unpredictable, I enjoy the many surprises of this process and use of non-traditional painting tools.
